HomeLight’s Q3 2025 Lender Insights & Predictions survey was fielded between August 19 and 26, 2025. Our report shows that consumer debt is higher than ever, and lenders are taking notice. 

Meanwhile, debt consolidation continues to fuel home equity lending, and buyers are still holding out hope for a 5.75% mortgage rate.

We also explore which industries and professions are struggling the most to purchase a home, and what loan officers think of the possibility of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac going public.
